Travel to Canada – Things You Need to Know

Travel to Canada

Regardless of what your plans are for travel to Canada, there are a few things that you should know. Some of these rules include what documents you need to bring with you, what vaccinations you need to get, and how to obtain an eTA, or Electronic Travel Authorization. Getting an eTA is simple, as long as you meet the requirements. It’s processed in a closed-loop online system.

US green card holders do not need a visa

Using your US green card to enter Canada is the simplest way to get there. However, there may be other documentation you will need to make your trip easier.

If you plan on staying for more than a year, you may want to apply for a reentry permit. This document protects your green card status and can help you re-enter Canada smoothly. You can apply for the permit using Form I-131 – Application for Travel Document.

If you want to work while in Canada, you may also want to apply for a work permit. You should check with the government office that issues your visa to find out if you qualify for a work permit.

You may also want to apply for a travel document if you plan on studying in Canada. The study permit is not a visa, but you do need to carry your valid passport.

Vaccination required

Vaccination required for travel to Canada has become a lot more relaxed over the past few months. This is thanks to the Canadian government’s efforts to cut back on pandemic-era travel restrictions.

The government suspended mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements for federally-regulated industry workers, and will no longer require proof of vaccination for travelers arriving from outside of Canada. However, unvaccinated foreign travelers are still subject to a 14-day quarantine. The government will continue to require masks for travel on federally-regulated trains.

However, travelers are no longer required to carry proof of vaccination on their travel documents. Instead, they are required to submit additional travel information. This includes information on the travel destination, the travel dates, and whether or not the traveler has received any vaccinations.

Documents required

Regardless of your reason for travel, it’s important to carry valid travel documents. Failure to carry the proper documents may result in delays at the airport or a refusal to enter Canada.

Travel documents are generally divided into two groups. One of these is a passport. The other is an electronic travel document. The documents can vary depending on the country of origin.

The documents must be able to establish your identity. Passports are the most common and reliable international travel document. However, some countries have special requirements. You should check with your government’s website for specific information.

For instance, Canada requires proof of citizenship. You should be able to prove your citizenship by presenting a birth certificate or a consular report of your birth.

eTAs are processed in a closed loop online system

The most notable is the new visa granting eTA (electronic travel authority), which is the first of its kind in Canada. Quarantine plan

Whether you are traveling to Canada to visit family, to work, or for a vacation, it is important to understand the quarantine requirements. The government is strict with quarantine rules, and if you fail to comply with the requirements, you can be fined up to CAD $750,000.

The Canadian government has introduced new quarantine requirements. In addition to the requirements for foreign nationals, the government has introduced a quarantine plan for travellers who have had the COVID-19 vaccine. The government has said that the new requirements are intended to make entering Canada easier for tourists who have been fully vaccinated.

Previously, foreign nationals were required to have proof of vaccination before they could board a plane. However, the new requirements allow for exemptions from testing requirements. For example, emergency services providers are exempt from new testing requirements. Similarly, essential workers such as truckers, doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals will not be required to have COVID-19 testing before entering Canada.
