Travel to Canada – How to Enter Canada Through the US Border

Although you may have a legal visitor visa or eTA, you may not be permitted to travel to Canada at this time or even be guaranteed entry into Canada. On this page, Foreign nationals, including United States citizens, are allowed to travel to Canada as visitor only if they meet specific eligibility requirements. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) monitors these programs very carefully. You must be in compliance with all the laws and regulations of the country you wish to visit if you wish to leave the United States to travel to Canada.

There are several types of visitor permits available for those travelling to Canada. These permits can be obtained from the Office of Immigration, and are different from the normal visitor visas and eTA that can be obtained from a Canadian visa office. These permits are called “registrations” and are good for three years. After the three years, however, you must reapply for your three year residency visa. The most common reasons for visiting Canada are business or tourist purposes, but you can also become a permanent resident if you meet certain requirements. For example, you can have a family member who is a Canadian citizen or a Canadian protected person.

If you are a US citizen or a resident of a US state, you will need to apply for a visa prior to travelling to Canada. You do not need to apply for a visa if you are travelling to Canada with your immediate family member. However, if you are travelling with your spouse or another immediate family member, you will require a visa. If you are a resident of Canada with no immediate family member, you will not need a visa.

If you are travelling to Canada via an international airport, you will require a visa. Visitors who are required a visitor visa can obtain one at the customs office in Canada. If you are travelling through an international bridge or tunnel, however, you will have to get an electronic travel authorization before leaving for Canada. This is necessary if you are crossing into Canada from the United States. If you are entering Canada via an airport that does not have a customs office, you will have to go to the relevant offices in Canada and obtain an electronic travel authorization.

A visitor visa is different from a social worker or a private visitor visa. A social worker is an emergency worker, a physiotherapist or a nurse. In canada, a private visitor visa is available for people that wish to work in Canada, whether they are Canadian citizens or non- Canadians. To work in Canada as a private or an emergency worker, you will require a social worker visa.

Immigrant investors will have different immigration requirements than a business or tourist. In order to work in Canada, an immigrant investor must apply for a work permit under the federal Immigration Program. Immigrants who intend to bring partners, children and dependents will also need to apply for an immigrant investor visa. Once you have met the specific requirements of the Immigration Program, the government will provide you with a certificate of Registration of Permanent Residence. The certificate will contain all the information about your permanent residence in Canada, as well as the prescribed language requirement. You will also be given a copy of the citizenship certificate.

When travelling between the US and Canada, there are several ways to enter Canada using the US border services officers. If you have obtained your passport, you can pass through the border services officers at the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Port of Sarnia, Ontario. These officers will check whether you are eligible to proceed onward to Canada. The border services officers at the ports of Lacolle and near Attitudes, New Brunswick will give you a temporary work permit until the officers in New York verify your eligibility to proceed onward. However, if you are travelling between the US and Canada through a crossing with an international railroad crossing, you will not be allowed to leave through the crossing.

The detailed procedures regarding admissibility requirements and registration of status is contained in the immigration program. For detailed information, you can refer the Canada Immigration website. As previously stated, the application for the registration of permanent residence must be submitted on the Canadian immigration website.
